A Love That's Pure

I have shot a lot of weddings over the years and this particular union is one that reminded me of exactly why I love shooting weddings so much. From the moment I met Allan and Amy I could see how much in love with each other they are. The way they look at each other and smile. They're body language as they talk conveys that sweet innocent excitement of being in love. I see in them the pure, honest emotion found between people that simply adore one another. They truly touched me.

When Emotions Run Strong

So many wedding's seem to get very caught up in the production that can go into creating photos. Not this one. When I arrived at Midvale Community Lutheran Church the Groom was literally hiding in a stall of the men's room as he dressed. I will never forget assuring him I was just checking in before going to work and that I didn't even have my camera in hand. Only then did he cautiously peek above the door of the stall! Instead of worry over photos they just wanted to focus on their ceremony and I admired that. Camera shy they may have been but once the nuptials began their love for each other became so apparent. It was so easy to capture images that are more than just pretty pictures. You can see how in love these two are with each other. There were times I began to get a little choked up as I shot and had to move to the back of the church in order to dry my eyes.

For their portraits I went out into the prairie at Aldo Leopold Nature Center and set up quickly in a spot I thought would work. It was a very humid, hot day so I didn't want them suffering in the heat. Once they came out at a signal from me I put them in place. Knowing they were camera shy I told them I was just doing "test" shots first and then had them pose. The test shots captured them being just themselves.

Again I want to thank these two directly for having me be their photographer. They've touched me in a very profound way with their display of affection, respect and kindness. It was such a pleasure working with them during the ceremony, and their reception was so lovely as well. You can see those photos via the link below.
