A Joyous Day
The one thing I will always remember about photographing this particular wedding was the sheer joy I saw and felt in this couple. Benjamin's heart warming smile is one that when you see it warms your heart. It's genuine without a hint of being forced. As his best man commented on during the reception, he is one of the happiest people I have ever met. Heather's easy laugh and relaxed manner compliment his joyous personality. I loved her enthusiasm as she prepared for the wedding. While there are always stressful moments to a wedding day I honestly couldn't detect any. Both of them were just too excited and happy to getting married. I think it affected everyone attending.
Usually I only photograph two weddings per month. I take a ton of photos during the event, and keeping it to only two helps me keep the volume of work at a manageable level. When they first contacted me I had already booked up for June and didn't think I'd take the contract. After having met them in person though I was more than excited to work with such a vibrant and interesting couple.
The day went without a single hitch. The setting at Olbrich Botanical Gardens was absolutely perfect. The air was fragrant with the fresh scent of the many flowers in bloom. It was simply the most stunningly beautiful location for them to join their two families together in wedlock. His had traveled all the way from Kenya, hers from Alaska. In fact her brother conducted their ceremony. It was all so lovely, I couldn't have had an easier time setting up shots to capture the beauty of this occasion.
