Andrew Smith, a second degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, as well as a Judo black belt came to Madison to teach a seminar at Foundations BJJ. It was an awesome experience! As a white belt I was WAY in over my head. I also found that trying to focus on taking photos made learning the moves a heck of lot more difficult. While he explained the technique for the first time I'd record video. Then I'd shoot photos of the following demonstrations. By the time I got to training with my partner I was usually lost but thankfully he was pretty patient and helped me catch up. I believe my deep half guard game, something I NEVER thought much about, is going to be a new frontier for me. Also, I have to note I lost over 3# just sweating! They've some rough mats, almost like a fine sandpaper, and the tops of my toes are all worn off. All that aside I had a great time as usual when I head over to Foundations to train. I really enjoy the folks who teach as well as the participants who attend their classes.
