Rough Blazing Star, Liatris aspera
Schurch-Thomson Prairie I wanted to test the macro camera rig that I’d built the day before. It wasn’t until late in the day that I finally had a free hour. I took a very short walk to a plant that my wife and I had previously noticed. A Rough Blazing Star has been getting closer and closer to blooming. It’s top little buds are starting to separate their bracts. They’re also showing a blush of color. I’m using my macro lens rig by hand, so fortunately the winds were practically nil. I tried various zoom settings from 1x to 5x magnification. It’s very difficult to focus when you’re shooting so tiny! Thankfully I think I can practice my yoga/meditation/focus elements that I picked up out here in the driftless. I think I’m going to enjoy sorting out how to use this MP-E 65mm.
