Wood Frogs - Eggs to Adults
This is a series that documents collecting Wood Frog, Rana sylvatica, eggs and then raising them. It's all an experiment to teach Freja a little basic biology. First we collected some eggs from a puddle of water near a lake. We placed them in a 10 gallon aquarium with a little sloped section that rose out of the water. The water level was kept at below half full, and there was an undergravel filter running as well.
The tadpoles were fed a steady diet of frozen spinach, thawed out of course. Occasionally I would through in a bit of fish food as well. There were frequent water changes, using de-chlorinated water.
As they emerged they were moved to another 10 gallon tank, set up as a terrarium. Lined with sand, and a small water feature, the environment also included sphagnum moss and leaf litter.
The frogs are fed a diet of crickets, from pinhead size to medium build.
