Layers of plaster gauze were then applied. I made sure to beef up the edges, and to form cross sections across the top to strengthen it. I also embedded large washers at the temples, and around the back side for use later.
Using a little masking tape I neatened up the edges of the shower cap. I'd also brushed a little Vaseline on her face, and eyebrows, to act as a release agent.
Freja has some ideas for her Halloween mask this year. I am going to try to make her mask from scratch. My first step was to create a plaster skullcap that I can use to make a base to build from. First I put a shower cap on the kid, the edges tapped down. Then she got a coating of Vaseline as a release agent. The cap is made from plaster gauze, with large washers embedded into the edges before/behind her ears, and along the back edge. These will be where I create anchor points for the chin straps, and neck covering.
