Stewart Lake - Volunteers
This is an "After" photo of a restoration/conservation project in Stewart County Park. All of the invasive Buckthorn has been eradicated. At least for now. I just hiked to this spot. Three years ago I took a "Before" photo. Note the little orange suited guy in the little notch on the ridge? That is my neighbor Don. I helped him get the initial ball rolling in clearing things. See that notice in the underbrush that allows a view of the lake? It was there that I once built the largest fire of my life. It was a living thing that sudden gusts across the hillside would cause it to reach out for you. Anyway, I took photos so we can see how things change. Don and others really did an amazing job. You can now see the oaks. Soon the native plants will take root. #stewartlake #stewartcountypark #danecountyparks #travelwi #explorewi #wisconsin #wisconsintrails #wisconsinparks #driftlessregion #driftless #driftlessarea #wisconsinlife #discoverwisconsin #travelwisconsin #midwestliving #explorewisconsin #outdoorlife #getoutside #liveoutdoors #getoutthere #naturelover #oaksavannah
Where a pasture once edged a ridge overlooking the valley below invasive trees have choked out not only the view but the native plants. This photo is from towards the beginning of restoring this back to a native prairie. Step one, cut & burn all the buck thorn! I tried to project what the views will become as the years pass by. It will be interesting to see the various "after" shots I'll be able to get as the prairie matures. What a fun project, and a unique opportunity this is for me as an artist!
