A New Season Begins
The morning was warm and the smell of the early season flowers made such a contrast to the cold smell of the departing winter. I couldn't help but be excited as I drove to cover my first wedding of the 2015 season. My excitement over finally being able to deploy the techniques, styling and pent up creative energy that I'd built up over the winter had me ready to roll as soon as I arrived.
It wasn't just the start of new season, or the fresh spring smells that had me excited. One of the most important directions I am wanting to take my passion for photography is to not only be a couple's wedding photographer, but to also establish a real relationship with them if possible. Giselle & Andrew were two people were it has been very possible indeed. The first time I met them I could tell they were a unique couple, with very interesting viewpoints about life. From the time we agreed to work together all the way until now, as I write this, we've worked together closely.
I was also very excited to photograph my first wedding at Olbrich Gardens, located in Madison, Wisconsin. It's a spectacular venue, with simply more locations to pose/shoot in then you could cover in an 8 hour day! It was to be a perfect combination of an awesome couple, and incredible, venue, and the thrill of being creative.
Seeing Her For the First Time
It was easy to see how much they loved each other. Their easy interactions with each other made their engagement sessions flow smoothly, resulting in some fun imagery. I knew even before I arrived at the venue that this was going to be a wedding to remember.
After getting ready at her home with the invaluable help of her bride's maids, who were all dressed in nice blue outfits of their own choosing, we set up for the "First Look." On the shore of Lake Monona, directly across from Olbrich Gardens, we located a stand of large trees as our setting. As you can see by the photos, it went very well indeed. I especially appreciated the Groom's retinue and their custom pocket watches!
Olbrich Gardens in the Spring
Soft natural light from a slightly cloudy sky along with a garden full of spring flowers made a perfect setting for this lovely couple's nuptials. All winter long I'd wondered what the garden would be like this early in spring. It was even more lovely than I'd imagined!
More Photos & A New Direction

I had such an enjoyable time working with this couple. I almost feel a little sad that the wedding day has come and gone. I have a feeling I'll be working with them more in the future, and I also hope that not only have I met some awesome clients, but also formed a friendship that will last for years. Yes, I believe this particular interaction with a bride & groom will be a model for me to emulate moving forward.
